Clients Say the Most Amazing Things: Let’s Stop Talking About HR Stuff and Talk About CEO Stuff

From time to time, TPO posts first-hand C-level business perspectives, excerpted from an ongoing series of conversations we have with our clients. This one is from the President of a B2B Marketing Consulting Firm:

“This notion of HR having a seat at the table has been going on for years to the point where its become almost sort of a satirical theme. And maybe, as we discussed today, it is because HR tends to start the discussion with ‘HR stuff’ and then wonder why the CEO doesn’t make time to discuss it.  If that happens again and again, rather than say ‘the CEO needs to value this more,’ you have to move the discussion to the CEO’s turf or perspective.  That means starting with the business metrics and working backwards and saying, well, if staff is the biggest line item, then we ought to say that staff has the biggest impact on the business results and we can show that.”
